Soldiers Accused Of Killing 400 Locals In Plateau

Special Task Force soldiers in Plateau state are accused of killing more than 400 villagers in Wase LGA.

A traditional ruler in Kumbun community made a shocking claim on May 3, Monday, as he spoke with newsmen in Jos, The Paradigm reports. He disclosed that the areas most affected by the murders were Taroh villages, Kadarko, Kurmi and Wadata, adding that the military had stormed the communities without any justifiable reason.


It was yesterday provided that 30 innocent residents had been killed by the soldiers in the area.

The military supposedly invaded the area on Saturday in 40 trucks following the reports about the alleged killings of four of their colleagues in Angwan Nanmi, Karin Lamido LGA, Taraba state.

The traditional head lamented:


“We are still in shock over what the military did to our people, as I speak to you, corpses of our people that were killed still litter the communities, thousands of homes were burnt and some of our villagers were burnt in their homes, including children and the aged.”

Captain Ikedichi Iweha, STF spokesperson, dismissed the claims about the purported assault on villagers.

The official explained that following frequent attacks on communities around the Plateau/Taraba border by some militiamen, the STF and soldiers from 3 Armoured Division of the Nigerian Army had been carrying out operations targeted at flushing out the militiamen.

However, one of the locals, who pleaded for anonymity, narrated:

“The soldiers arrived the area and opened fire on innocent people, burning their houses. It is not clear why soldiers would open fire on the people they are supposed to defend.”

Meanwhile it was reported earlier today that dozens of people had been killed in Barkinlad​i​ LGA of Plateau state in a Sunday raid by the unknown gunmen.
