Presidential aide says‘ Nigeria’s economy can’t support new trains,’

The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs, Doyin Okupe has said that Nigeria can’t purchase new trains because its economy can’t support them.

Okupe stated this during an interview on Sahara TV while addressing the issue of Nigeria’s obsolete trains.

"Forget it. We are not America. You cannot have brand new trains because the economy cannot support that,” Okupe said.

Jonathan’s administration frequently touts the current train system in Nigeria as one of its most notable achievements.
