‘Don’t use Police escort on Saturday,’ Command vows to arrest politicians

The Oyo State Police command has deployed over 21, 000 officers to different parts of the state to ensure forestall incidences that may jeopardize the governorship and State House of Assembly elections tomorrow, April 11.

The state Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, who spoke to Premium Times, cautioned the people of the state to obey the restriction of movement order, which states that residents can only move around between 8.00 am and 5pm .

“The restriction of vehicular movement is ordered by the Inspector General of Police. Members of the public are warned to ensure strict compliance with this directive in their own interest as the CP would not hesitate to prosecute any violator of this order,” Ajisebutu said.

He said anyone who attempts to disrupt the electoral process will be brought to book, noting that no politician is allowed to move around with Police escort.

“Intelligence at the disposal of the command also indicates that some disgruntled politicians have decided to hold nocturnal meetings in their premises and houses with criminal motive to cause breach of peace should they lose the election. The police warn that if the intelligence appears credible, we will not hesitate to bring them before the law.

“It is further warned that any politician found using police escort on the Election Day will be arrested and such escort withdrawn. We enjoin the people of Oyo State to come out en mass to exercise their franchise,” he stressed.
