Some Muslims are said to be rejecting the new N100 note which was unveiled by Goodluck Jonathan in 2014, to celebrate the country's 100 years’ anniversary.
In November, the an Islamic association, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) had raised concern on Nigeria's new N100 note pointing out that there was a Jewish symbol on the note.
But the Federal Government denied MURIC’s claims ordering them to apologise for false accusation.
A Nairalander with the handle Dandydrey claimed to have witnessed an incident in an eatery over the centenary note.
He reported that a Muslim student was given N100 change by the waiter who is also Muslim, after he was done eating and ready to leave.
The Muslim student had refused the new note, requesting for the old N100 note from the waiter who was surprised at her customer’s demand.
She was said to have asked the Muslim student why he wouldn’t collect the money and his response was “there is no Arabic on it”.
The situation was strange for both the attendant and other customers who had witnessed the argument.
The incident raises certain questions concerning acceptance of the centenary note which has been in circulation since last year.
What is your opinion on the incident, are Muslims in Nigeria rejecting the N100 centenary note?
