French ministry says the meeting is a step in building a strong relationship between the tech companies and the French government (Associate Press)
France has enlisted the help of Internet giants- Google, Facebook and Twitter- to help fight terrorism. The country witnessed the insurgency of terrorists who attacked satirical newspaper, Charlie Hebdo, killing 20 people including three gunmen.

The French Interior Minister, Bernard Cazeneuve during a one day visit to San Francisco and Silicon Valley on Friday, February 20, asked Google, Facebook and Twitter to work directly with French officials during investigations and to immediately remove extremist propaganda when authorities alert them to it.
"We emphasised that when an investigation is under way we don't want to go through the usual government to government channels, which can take so long. It's important to have full cooperation and quick reaction. I told them we can figure this out together, we can come up with counterterrorism speech and block these sites that are enticing the most vulnerable members of our society to commit terrorist acts, “Bernard Cazeneuve told journalists after meeting with reps of the Internet companies.
Cazeneuve said the meeting on Friday was a first step in building a strong relationship between the tech companies and the French government.
According to Al Jazeera, Twitter and Facebook spokespersons expressed satisfaction with the meeting with the France Interior Minister and revealed that they have always done everything in the past to stop material that incites violence.
They didn’t however reveal their decision on heeding to the minister’s request for direct cooperation with the French authorities.
