The father of former Governor of Plateau State, Joshua Dariye, Pa Dariye Defwan, has been kidnapped by some unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Saturday, 7 February, 2015.
According to family sources, the kidnappers numbering about nine, stormed Dariye's country home in Mushere, Bokkos local government area of the state, at about 7.30pm and whisked away the 87-year-old man.
The sources say they were shooting sporadically into the air to scare away anyone who could have come to the rescue of the octogenarian before bundling him onto a waiting motorcycle and headed towards Wamba in the neighbouring Nasarawa State.
The following day, the bad men put a call to the family and made a demand of $10,000 as ransom.
Dariye, who was the governor of Plateau State from 199 to 2006, is now a serving Senator representing Plateau Central Zone, is said to be making frantic efforts to rescue his old father while security operatives are also working overtime to track down the kidnappers.
