The Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Prof. Victor
Peretomode has warned students of the institution to stay away from
cultism or risk expulsion and further punitive measures.
Students caught engaging in cultism will be
expelled and disgraced through reports in national dailies and the
internet, says the Vice Chancellor of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Prof. Victor Peretomode.
Peretomode
said this as the weekend while administering the oath to 4,361 newly
matriculated students for the 2014/2015 academic session.
The
Vice Chancellor warned the students to diligently observe the rules and
regulations of the University and stay away from, cultism which is
banned in the institution.
"Any student caught
indulging in any form of cultism in the campus will not only be thrown
out, his or her name will be published in all national dailies and the
internet," Peretomode said.
He added that other acts of indiscipline will be equally punished.
"The
University takes serious exception on issues that bothers on
indiscipline and lawlessness, particularly when such actions involve
violence, cultism, examination malpractice, indecent dressing among
others classified as breach of matriculation oath."
Cultism is a major problem that has claimed many students’ lives in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Only
last week, the Vice Chancellor of the Lagos State University (LASU),
Professor John Obafunwa, warned newly admitted students to steer clear
of 'evil' cultism or risk expulsion.
